The overlooked fungal kingdom just got its own BioDAO.

MycoDAO, a decentralized science collective focused on fungi, has successfully completed its $MYCO token generation event (TGE), raising $468K via the Bio Protocol launchpad. $MYCO is now live on Solana, marking a major milestone in decentralized biotech.

The project aims to decode the untapped potential of the fungal biome, home to as many as 13 million species of which only ~150,000 have names.

Fungi are a vast, underexplored domain of biological potential. With up to 13 million species estimated, yet only about 150,000 identified, the opportunity spans drug discovery, biomaterials, and ecological restoration. With a $1.3 trillion opportunity spanning next-gen therapeutics, bioplastics, and climate regeneration, fungi represent a biodiversity war chest.

And MycoDAO is opening it.

A New Model for Fungal Science

MycoDAO’s infrastructure stack is composed of three core elements:

Lab-in-a-Box

Developed by Mycosoft, Lab-in-a-Box is a portable, low-cost DNA sequencing lab designed for use in the field. It enables both professional mycologists and citizen scientists to conduct high-quality biological research outside traditional institutional environments. These hardware devices are built to be modular, scalable, and operable in low-resource settings.

MycoApp

The MycoWallet mobile application allows users to collect and contribute fungal data—including photos, samples, environmental metadata, and sequencing results—through a gamified interface. Contributors are rewarded with $MYCO tokens for verified submissions, creating an incentive structure that fuels participation and expands the global fungal data commons.

Multi-Agent System (MAS)

The MAS is an AI-powered platform designed to analyze complex, heterogeneous fungal data at scale. Built using the elizaOS agent framework, the system normalizes raw inputs, constructs dynamic knowledge graphs, and surfaces novel signals in genomic and ecological data. The MAS will ultimately support applications in therapeutics, materials science, and environmental engineering.

This decentralized architecture enables a continuous, community-driven pipeline from data generation to biotech discovery.

About $MYCO

The $MYCO token governs both incentive and ownership structures within the MycoDAO ecosystem.

  • Contributors earn $MYCO for data generation, curation, and analysis.
  • Hardware operators are rewarded for deploying Mycosoft devices in field or lab environments.
  • Developers building on the MAS and data graph can receive grants or participate in bounties.
  • Token holders participate in governance decisions, including funding allocations and strategic direction.

Scientific and Commercial Goals

MycoDAO is pursuing a diverse portfolio of applied research and development initiatives aimed at high-impact domains, including:

  • Discovery of novel antibiotics and therapeutics from previously undocumented fungal species
  • Development of mycelium-based materials as sustainable alternatives to plastics and leather
  • Engineering of fungi capable of carbon sequestration and bioremediation of toxic industrial waste

These efforts, led by veteran technologist and founder of Mycosoft Morgan Rockwell, are grounded in open-source, community-owned infrastructure, making them accessible to independent researchers, academic institutions, and biohacker communities worldwide.

Leading Decentralized Science

MycoDAO is part of a broader shift in how scientific research is funded, conducted, and commercialized.

While traditional institutions face increasing budget constraints and bureaucratic friction, decentralized science platforms are demonstrating that blockchain-native approaches can unlock faster, more democratic paths to discovery.
