The Problem
Over 10,000 rare diseases affect 1 in 10 people globally, imposing a $1 trillion economic burden in the U.S. alone. Big Pharma often overlooks these conditions due to smaller market sizes, leaving millions without effective treatments.
The Solution
Curetopia, the first BioDAO on Solana, is a groundbreaking online research collective that accelerates drug development for rare diseases using cryptocurrency and blockchain technology. By empowering patients and their families to directly fund and influence research, Curetopia is creating a new model for community-driven medicine where patients and patient families are in control.
The Team
Dr. Ethan O. Perlstein (Chief Science Officer) Harvard PhD, Y Combinator alum and biotech founder with over a decade of experience in rare disease drug development. Dr. Perlstein previously brought a rare disease drug to Phase 3 trial for just $5 million (compared to typical $100M+ costs) by collaborating directly with patients and their families. Other contributors include PhDs and biotech operators who have led drug repurposing programs and pioneered therapeutic innovations for rare diseases.
